The vast majority of business executives worldwide (94%) continue to view the UN's SDGs as a uniting global agenda. However, there has been a decline in the attention given to the SDGs in recent years; just around half of the business leaders polled said they thought the 2030 target was still attainable. As of halfway through 2030, fresh study from consultancy firm Accenture supports this.
A more sustainable world is the ultimate goal of the 17 global goals known as the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), which address social, economic, and environmental challenges. The goal is to meet these aims by 2030, but more work in the private sector will be required to achieve that date. Just 15% of the SDG targets are currently on track to be achieved by 2030; progress on 48% of the targets is weak or insufficient, and 37% of the targets show halted or even reversed progress. "Companies worldwide are becoming increasingly aware of their capacity to implement significant changes in sustainable development," stated Accenture's Global Sustainability Services Lead Stephanie Jamison.
"We can now use multiple large data sets to measure private sector impacts on the SDGs far more accurately and consistently than ever before thanks to advancements in technology and data analytics over the past five years." This in turn provides clarity that will assist fulfill the business sector's crucial role in accomplishing the SDGs by enabling executives to manage such consequences sooner and with better results.
