The couple's desire to live outside of hectic cities brought them together when they first met in 1987. The pair quickly understood that wasn't where they wanted to be. We discussed having the same ambition of living outside in nature during our first discussions, King told Insider. "We discovered that nature was therapeutic. That was what connected us.They moved in together (in a condo), and as soon as they did, they started looking for the ideal location to create their ideal island. Off the coast of Tofino, British Columbia, they discovered a small abandoned island and made the decision to erect a floating residence there.
They used abandoned wood planks they discovered after a storm to begin construction on their house. The house was finished after five years, and they started enlarging the area around it. The island expanded over time to include a candle factory, a water purification system, many greenhouses, and even a chicken coop. King claims that maintaining the hand-built island in good condition, which is difficult given the frequent storms, was one of the hardest parts. The dance floor, according to her, has really needed to be rebuilt four times. After Adams, the 62-year-old's husband, passed away last year, she is now living alone on the island. She claims that she doesn't have any immediate plans to leave.
