The environmental paradox of Elon Musk, the CEO of Tesla

Musk is the owner of more than just Tesla, even when one ignores the environmental expenses associated with the manufacture of cars and batteries, the expense of charging electric cars on unclean grids, and any of his personal endeavors, such as flying in a private jet. Furthermore, several of Musk's other businesses are inherently less sustainable than Tesla, even if Musk and Tesla were totally sustainable.

"Tesla has outperformed every other company in terms of environmental impact," he declared. "Therefore, as the company's head, I think I've done more for the environment than any one person on the planet." The business has solidified its position as the top private space enterprise in recent years. Additionally, Musk has recently increased SpaceX flights in order to uphold that dominance as well as expand his Starlink satellite constellation. In 2020, SpaceX conducted 26 missions; in 2021, 31; and in 2022, 61.

And the world has caught up with SpaceX as it has increased the frequency of its launches. Astronomer Jonathan McDowell reports that as of December 18, there have been at least 200 launches globally, which is greater than the 174 launches from the previous year and the 132 from the year before.
