Sustainability is now a key driver of innovation

More companies are embracing sustainability as an integral part of their business. Business leaders consider sustainability a strategic priority for their businesses since long-term business viability could be achieved by improving efficiency, reducing waste and carbon footprint. Edler Panlilio, managing director, SAP Philippines, spoke to The Manila Times, How has sustainability gained momentum to drive innovation?Edler Panlilio (EdP): There are four key factors that drive this. First, shareholders now expect businesses to become more sustainable. Second, investors now integrate environmental, social, and governance activities into investment decisions and devote funds to low-carbon and energy-saving projects. Third, consumers are making clear shifts to more sustainable products and services. And fourth, today's employees make career choices based on their employers' responsibility towards the planet, so companies need to reduce their carbon footprints if it is to attract millennial and Gen Z job applicants in the years to come.
