In order to take concrete climate action, organizations are adopting net-zero emissions policies. These tactics frequently call for close cooperation with suppliers, partners in business, and clients. Scope 3 emissions, which are indirect emissions brought on by actions like buying products and services, account for more than 80% of the carbon footprint of many corporations.
Our social and environmental implications continue to be significantly influenced by the global supply chain. At SAP, we are partnering closely with a diversified supplier network, including social businesses, across all seven procurement categories in order to eliminate single-use plastics, reduce carbon emissions, uphold human rights, and create a sustainable supply chain. Through our global procurement department, we are constantly searching for ways to get better as a purpose-driven business. One of the main tools for achieving net-zero goals is sustainable buying practices.
To dramatically reduce greenhouse gas emissions along our upstream value chain, SAP plans to implement a multi-phased supply chain engagement program for our key suppliers by 2024. By incorporating a new sustainability categorization system and including environmental impact criteria into the procurement documentation, the program will integrate environmental considerations throughout the procurement process.
