Roam has advanced the cause of environmentally friendly transportation. A new factory for the mobility start-up has just been established in Nairobi. The factory, which has a 10,000 square meter footprint and a 50,000 electric motorcycle production capability per year, is the largest of its kind in East Africa.
In addition to production, it will make it possible to convert the hundreds of boda boda (motorbike taxis that run on gasoline) that are now in use in the capital of Kenya to electric power, thereby lowering the amount of air pollution they produce. In the first half of 2023, Nairobi is ranked fifth among the most polluted African cities on the Serbian platform Numbeo.
"This plant demonstrates Kenya's ability to be a leader in the continent's clean transportation solutions. Therefore, it is a project that precisely satisfies our country's goals of lowering carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions, according to President of the Republic William Ruto, who was present at the opening ceremony for Roam's new facility. The business, led by Filip Lövström, uses green energy to charge the batteries inside its electric motorcycles.
