Production starts at Volkswagen Group's first fully owned battery plant in China.

The first battery system plant operated by the Volkswagen Group in China started producing its first high-voltage battery system. VWAC is the first battery system facility in which Volkswagen Automatic Transmission (Tianjin) Co., Ltd. has made a complete investment. Based on the Group's MEB architecture, VWAC will power Volkswagen Anhui's all-electric vehicles with an initial yearly capacity of 150,000 to 180,000 high-voltage battery systems.

Multiple cell modules, a battery management system, a cell management controller, and connector strips make up the recently manufactured battery system. 96% of the parts needed to produce batteries are found locally.

Advanced technology and automation will be integrated at every level of the manufacture, assembly, and testing of the battery systems, in line with the Group's vision and committed investment in a digitalized manufacturing process. In particular, automatic line feeding technology covers the entire production process. VWAC can achieve just-in-sequence (JIS) logistics and accurate parts processing by combining automated guided vehicles (AGV), high-precision intelligent cameras, and industrial robots. This ensures production stability and product quality.
