Paris 2024 plans to cut emissions from the 2012 and 2016 Games by 50%.

The International Olympic Committee (IOC) showpiece is put together, and with less than a year until the Games, organizers want Paris 2024 to be "spectacular and sustainable." According to Estanguet, this must change or risk the future of the event as pressure grows for wider sport to be more sustainable.
According to Estanguet, "We want to show that Paris and France can deliver a Games in a different way than in the past." The future of the Games will be in jeopardy if we don't show that it is possible to cut the carbon impact by half, so we have plans for a magnificent celebration while also doing that. Georgina Grenon, director of environmental excellence for Paris 2024, stated that this was a part of a modified plan for organizing the Games to be more environmentally friendly.
The primary goal should be to reduce emissions. We see the occasion as a testing ground for new ideas aimed at finding ways to cut back and then leave those cuts as a legacy.
