McDonald's Malaysia signs a Supply Agreement with Renewable Energy, establishing a strategic cooperation with Tenaga Nasional Bhd and GSPARX Sdn Bhd for the installation of rooftop solar photovoltaic facilities. The solar PV systems will be erected in stages at 100 McDonald's Drive-Thru locations around the country, with the project expected to be completed by December 2024. McDonald's has been collaborating with TNB on its initial phase of sustainability activities since June 2022, which includes the installation of rooftop solar PV installations at select McDonald's restaurants. GSPARX, a wholly owned subsidiary of TNB, installed rooftop solar systems at 39 McDonald's restaurants around the country in the first phase, with a total capacity of 1216.18kWp.
This is a significant step forward in McDonald's long-term sustainability efforts. In addition to signing the SARE, McDonald's will enter into another partnership with GSPARX to develop Electric Vehicle (EV) charging stations at select McDonald's outlets, as part of the company's commitment to promote the adoption of clean energy solutions and the growth of electric mobility in Malaysia.
