Making Food Production More Sustainable
Author: Anastasia Volkova
Consumers now are gaining awareness of the sustainability behind the food they buy. In response to this, many food companies have made public commitments to science-based sustainability goals. Many of these goals include net-zero emissions targets. In fact, according to the U.K.-based Energy and Climate Intelligence Unit, one - fifth of the world's largest companies have committed to a net-zero target. Food companies are well aware that the majority of the emissions embedded in their products comes from agricultural production. It seems appropriate that food companies are now focusing their efforts on addressing those emissions, with an emphasis on agriculture. These companies recognize that agriculture itself can be the solution to the problem. Using modern technology and science, we can avoid a lot of emissions associated with soil and crop management practices.
