LIDL TRIALS THE FIRST "SMART" REFILL STATION IN THE UK SUPERMARKET TO HELP CUSTOMERS SAVE COSTS AND PLASTIC

Customers at the Kingswinford store may now buy a specific, 100% recyclable refill bottle containing four different Lidl house brand laundry detergents for the same price as a typical single-use bottle as of Thursday, April 28. Customers will never pay more for a more environmentally friendly option because refills after the initial purchase of the refill bottle are subject to a 20p savings, which lowers both customer expenditure and the amount of plastic used.

The trial expands on Lidl's pledge to cut its use of plastic packaging by 40% by 2025 and to fight plastic waste, which has already resulted in the removal of 1 billion plastic pieces from stores. "At Lidl, we believe you shouldn't have to pay more for doing the right thing," stated Mark Newbold, CSR Manager at Lidl GB. We're thus very happy to be testing this innovative refill technology, which not only helps consumers use less plastic but also save money on their weekly grocery bill. Algramo, which has been committed to assisting Chilean people in purchasing necessities in reusable packaging since 2013, has emerged as a global leader in the circular economy.  Together with enabling its consumers to pay, on average, 10% less for the products, this partnership makes Lidl the first retailer in Europe to test Algramo's circular platform.
