On August 29, 2023, in Minnesota, a significant shift in the airline business may have begun.

To make Minnesota the birthplace of sustainable aviation fuel, major companies in finance, energy, science, and aviation have joined together. The problem is that 20 billion gallons are needed worldwide for this, but only 20 million gallons will be generated in the United States this year. Therefore, there is a significant mismatch between supply and demand, according to Greater MSP CEO Peter Frosch.

To establish a SAF hub at Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport, several businesses, including Delta, Xcel Energy, and EcoLab, launched a cooperation on August 29, 2023."Minnesota turns out to be one of the best places to do this in North America because of the combination of air demand, existing biofuels infrastructure, a strong agricultural economy, and strong research assets," said Frosch.
