I saved $50,000 and left my job to live in a tent with my son. I couldn't be happier.

Just in case you thought people's wallets weren't being affected by NYC home prices: A mother from New York claims that moving into a tent full-time with her son and leaving her work had made her happy than ever and saved her close to $50,000.

Blue, an Uber driver, was motivated to live off the grid in 2021 after accruing significant debt while residing in New York City. She reportedly spent $2,500 each month on rent, utilities, gas, and garbage collection. Gothamite made the decision to abandon the large metropolis and lead a nomadic lifestyle. She resigned from her position, purchased a tent from Walmart, and set it up in her garden. Blue started her nomadic existence as a fun "90-day camping challenge" to spend more time with her son Britton, 14, but after just a few days she decided to rough it full-time.

After a few of weeks, it dawned on the budding minimalist how much money she could save by doing this. She initially relocated to Illinois before settling in upstate New York. The delighted camper spent $1800 to upgrade to a larger tent after deciding to live permanently outside. In addition, Blue spent $1,500 on a solar generator, enabling her to operate her crochet shop, Spotted Horse Design Co., from her house.
