Grounds Krewe is a non-profit that is focused on providing waste prevention, recycling and sustainable products for New Orleans festivals. The organization has a strong focus on how to lower the waste impact of Carnival parades, which can produce as much as 2.6 million pounds of street waste in just 11 days. Most of that waste is unwanted, disposable, plastic beads made with really unhealthy materials in factories overseas and items like cans and bottles that aren’t being recycled. Brett Davis hopes spectators at this year’s Mardi Gras parades catch one of his sustainable throws and hopes he will bring positive change to the waste created by Mardi Gras.
