Greenline to spend 5,000 crores to buy long-haul trucks for environmentally friendly logistics

The provider of green mobility solutions, GreenLine, plans to invest roughly ₹850 crore to add 1,000 LNG trucks to its fleet in this fiscal year, marking a significant expansion of its two-year-old logistics services activities.In FY25, it plans to invest an additional ₹4,000 crore to increase the deployment of LNG trucks by 5,000 units. Additionally, it will investigate the possibility of utilizing electric vehicles for short-haul operations.The company, which is a part of the Essar Group, wants to decarbonize heavy trucking in India. Corporates and industrial players, who are also looking to scale up greener initiatives and move forward with their environmental, social, and governance (ESG) vision, are showing a lot of interest in the company's LNG-powered freight transportation.

"We are currently operating approximately 250 LNG-powered trucks that oversee our clients' logistics operations. By March 2024, we hope to deploy 1,000 LNG-powered trucks, requiring an investment of roughly ₹85 lakh per truck," stated Anand Mimani, CEO of GreenLine, in a statement to Mint. According to GreenLine, its fleet of cutting-edge LNG-powered trucks from Blue Energy Motors can cut emissions of carbon dioxide by up to 30%, SOx (sulfur oxides) by up to 100%, NOx (nitrogen oxides) by up to 59%, CO (carbon monoxide) by up to 70%, and particulate matter by up to 91%. This allows corporate India to immediately reduce emissions from its road logistics operations.
