Finland's mine is able to cut emissions thanks to Neste's renewable fuel.

Outokumpu will employ Neste MY Renewable Diesel to replace the fossil fuels now used by its Kemi mine, Tornio steel plant, and the contractors on these sites. The stainless steel produced by Outokumpu has the lowest emissions in the world. By 2025, it intends to achieve carbon neutrality at its Kemi mine. The Kemi mine and the Tornio mill are able to lower their fleet and heavy machinery's greenhouse gas emissions by an average of 90%* thanks to Neste-supplied renewable fuel.  The annual greenhouse gas emissions from the Kemi mine will drop by around 11,300 tons when Neste's renewable fuel is used. This will entail meeting approximately 30% of the Kemi mine's overall carbon neutrality target.

"At Neste, our purpose is to assist customers cut their greenhouse gas emissions by at least 20 million tons annually by 2030 using our renewable and circular solutions. I'm happy that our long-standing partnership with Outokumpu is still going strong and that we can help the business achieve its challenging carbon neutrality goal. The most comprehensive mining and steel sector collaboration that Neste has undertaken in Europe to date involves the use of renewable fuel at the Kemi mine and the Tornio steel mill. The renewable product from Neste is appropriate for diesel-powered heavy equipment and fleet vehicles as is. Outokumpu can cut greenhouse gas emissions right away by switching their own fleet and the fleets of its contractors over to our renewable fuel, says Joni Pihlström, Vice President, Marketing & Services, B2B.
