The Erik Thun Group is spending SEK 36 million to put battery packs on nine of our current dry cargo vessels as part of our climate transition and to further cut greenhouse gas emissions. It will be less necessary to operate the engines when in port if battery packs are installed and the vessels' shore power connection is improved. The battery pack will act as a backup for all systems on board in the event of a blackout, increasing safety and preventing any potential environmental impact. This will be advantageous for reducing emissions as well as for reducing noise and for overall safety.
The Erik Thun Group's total investment is estimated to be SEK 36 million; the Climate Leap funds awarded will reimburse up to 40% of the investment, but not more than SEK 14.4 million. The Swedish Environmental Protection Agency is investing locally to benefit the climate the most. The Climate Leap initiative's primary goal is to cut back on emissions that have an impact on the climate. The Environmental Protection Agency has been given a mandate to assist regional climate investments and plays a key role in the Swedish government and parliament's climate plan.
