The Danish consumer protection body is reviewing the country’s guidelines on the use of environmental and ethical claims in marketing after it was revealed to regularly receive complaints about ‘greenwashing’. In 2014, the Danish Consumers Ombudsman released the “Guidance on the use of environmental and ethical claims". During 2021, the consumer protection body crunched the document release in 2014, into a quick guide giving several examples about what would be a rightful or misleading way to market products. Their report from 2021, found that nearly half of ‘green’ claims on plastic products could be misleading: “LCA does not take into account plastic pollution impacts including microplastics and leaching of hazardous substances from plastics into the environment, and it does not account for the displacement of food production and deforestation risks when producing bio-based plastic feedstocks,” continued Le Gallou, who believe that the best solution to minimise the environmental footprint of food packaging would be reusable alternatives
