Coffee most vulnerable, climate change to shrink cultivation by 2050
With climate change raging extreme weather events across the world, the changing environment will affect the global food supply as it disrupts the cultivation of several food crops. A new study projects that regions producing coffee, avocado, cashews will be severely affected as the world further heats up. Coffee, cashew and avocado have similar ecological niches. However, there are still significant differences in their biophysical requirements. While avocado has the highest suitable temperature range, coffee is most susceptible to high temperatures. At the same time, avocado is more susceptible to low temperatures than the other crops during the coldest months.
