The company stated in a statement that BPCL R&D has taken on the diesel-ethanol blend to minimize emissions in accordance with Bharat Petroleum's sustainability agenda and net zero objective. The action is consistent with its 2040 net zero goal. The oil marketing organization has been expanding its product line while putting an emphasis on petrochemicals and sustainable aviation fuel.

"Our dynamic R&D team, brimming with creativity, has successfully developed a multitude of cutting-edge technologies, innovative products, and processes that have not only increased our profitability but also significantly reduced our environmental footprint," said G. Krishnakumar, Chairman & Managing Director, BPCL. Their unwavering commitment to quality has helped us win multiple awards, including a sizable patent portfolio.

BPCL R&D promotes excellence and innovation in various fields while concentrating on carbon capture, green hydrogen, biofuels, clean fuels, petrochemicals, and business sustainability.  It has made significant progress in the digital sphere as well, having created two new technologies, the "K Model" for crude compatibility and the "BPMARRK" for quick and precise real-time crude test. At the international level, only BPCL has accomplished this milestone in the oil and gas industry.

In order to reduce India's reliance on impod gas, which now meets 50% of the nation's 44MMTPA gas consumption, BPCL-R&D is developing a PNG burner that uses less energy. Notably, BPCL-R&D has succeeded in creating a PNG burner with a 70% efficiency, above the previously recorded 55% efficiency. In order to reduce reliance on imports, it is intended to execute a pilot and roll out the PNG stove during FY 2023–2024.
