Aurangabad civic body must stop river pollution, lack of funds no excuse: NGT
Aurangabad Municipal Corporation must prevent pollution of rivers by discharge of untreated sewage, the National Green Tribunal has stressed that the absence of funds cannot be a reason. Referring to the report submitted by the Maharashtra Pollution Control Board, the NGT said it is seen that 100% sewage is not being discharged into the river, resulting in water pollution. "No one can be allowed to contaminate water that is to be consumed by living beings and used for irrigation, affecting food safety. The state is bound to honour basic human rights of citizens and arrange funds for the same," the NGT court said in its latest ruling.
