The largest steel producer in the world, ArcelorMittal, intends to be net zero by 2050. The terms "Carbon" and "Emissions" appeared most frequently in ArcelorMittal's most recent filings in reference to net-zero.By constructing a 2.5 million tonne direct reduction iron (DRI) facility and two electric furnaces at its Gent site, ArcelorMittal Belgium aims to cut CO2 emissions by 3.9 million tonnes per annum (Mtpa) by 2030. By 2025, the business will switch all of its 10 million tonnes per year of pellet production to direct reduced iron (DRI) pellets, saving ArcelorMittal Mining Canada 200,000 tonnes of direct CO2 equivalent.
The business is looking at ways to increase the amount of XCarb® recycled and sustainably manufactured flat steel that is produced, and it is working with Shell, Mitsubishi, and other cross-industry businesses to establish the Hamburg Green Hydrogen Hub. By 2025, ArcelorMittal's Sestao factory in Spain will produce steel at a full scale with no carbon emissions.
