Extinction Rebellion

Extinction Rebellion is a global environmental movement that aims to make governments take action against climate change, global warming and biodiversity loss. It is abbreviated as XR and has people from different backgrounds, cultures, and political affiliations from across the world. Extinction Rebellion is a "non-violent civil disobedience" movement that wants governments to declare a "climate and ecological emergency" and take immediate action. It was established in the United Kingdom on May 2018 and now has branches many countries such as Australia, Netherlands, Canada etc.  They are also planning to conduct peaceful, creative protests and non-violent civil disobedience regarding COP26 which will be known as COP26 Rebellion.

Earth First!

Founded by Dave Foreman, Mike Roselle, Howie Wolke, Bart Koehler, and Ron Kezar in 1980, Earth First is a radical environmental advocacy group. Their main slogan is “No compromise in defense of mother earth!” and promotes the idea that every life form, and indeed every ecosystem, has intrinsic value and a right to live and flourish regardless of human interests. Originated in Southwestern United States, it now is active in over 19 countries including Australia, Belgium, Canada, the Czech Republic, France and Germany. The co-founders of the group were called to action during the second "Roadless Area Review and Evaluation" (RARE II) by the U.S. Forest Service.

With more than three million members and online activists, NRDC is a United States-based non-profit international environmental advocacy group. While its headquars is in New York City, other offices lies Washington D.C., San Francisco, Los Angeles, New Delhi, Chicago, Bozeman, and Beijing. It was founded in 1970 by a group of law students and attorneys at the forefront of the environmental movement and now with the expertise of some 700 scientists, lawyers, and policy advocates across the globe to ensure the rights of all people to the air, the water, and the wild. According to The New York Times, it is "One of the nation's most powerful environmental groups."

Founded in 1993 by Ken Cook and Richard Wiles, The Environmental Working Group (EWG) is a non-profit American activist group that specializes in research and advocacy in the areas of agricultural subsidies, toxic chemicals, drinking water pollutants, and corporate accountability. Its headquar lies in Washington, D.C. It is now a community of 30 million that is working to protect the environmental health by changing industry standards. The team of scientists, policy experts, lawyers and communications and data experts at EWG work to reform nation’s broken chemical safety and agricultural laws.

 

School Strike for Climate

Founded by the Swedish climate activist Greta Thunberg, School Strike for Climate is an international movement of school students who skip Friday classes to participate in demonstrations to demand action from political leaders to take action to prevent climate change. It was also known as as Fridays for Future (FFF), Youth for Climate, Climate Strike or Youth Strike for Climate. Their main demand is no new coal, oil and gas projects, 100% renewable energy generations and exports by 2030 and fund a just transition and job creation for all fossil-fuel workers and their communities.

350.Org is an international movement that is working to end the age of fossil fuels and build a world of community-led renewable energy for all. Interestingly, the 350 in the name stands for 350 ppm (parts per million) of carbon dioxide. This has been identified as the safe upper limit to avoid a climate tipping point. However, the monthly average CO2 concentration for 2021 is 419 ppm. Their main focus is to advocate the fossil fuel industry to stop all new coal, oil and gas projects and build a clean energy future for all. They believe that the fight against climate change is a fight for justice as people all over the world are facing the impacts of climate change.

Green Peace

Based in Amsterdam, the Netherlands, Green peace international is the network of 26 independent national/regional organizations in over 55 countries across Europe, the Americas, Africa, Asia and the Pacific. It was founded in 1971 and their main goal is to ensure the ability of the earth to nurture life in all its diversity. All their work is funded almost entirely by donations given to them by individuals from all over the world and they do not accept money from governments, corporations or political parties. Similarly, they also develop, research and promote concrete steps towards a green and peaceful future.

Sea Shepherd

Founded in 1977, Sea Shepherd is a non-profit, marine conservation organization based in Friday Harbor on San Juan Island, Washington, United States. Their main mission is to defend, conserve and protect our ocean. Similarly, they also work to protect the world’s oceans from illegal exploitation and environmental destruction. Their campaigns have defended whales, dolphins, seals, sharks, penguins, turtles, fish etc. from poaching, unsustainable fishing, habitat destruction, and exploitive captivity. They also works with law enforcement agencies such as INTERPOL to help bring poachers to justice, and partners with national governments around the world to stop illegal, unrepod and unregulated fishing in their sovereign waters.
